Exelon Uses Exelon is used to treat Alzheimer's disease. Alzheimer's disease is associated with low levels of a chemical called acetylcholine (ah see til KOH leen) in your brain. The exact way that Exelon works is unknown. However, it is believed that Exelon prevents the breakdown of acetylcholine in your brain.
How to Use Exelon Take Exelon exactly as directed on the package or as directed by your doctor. If you do not understand these directions, ask your pharmacist, nurse, or doctor to explain them to you. Take each dose with a full glass of water. It can be taken with or without food. Never take more of this medication than is prescribed for you. Exelon Side Effects This drug may cause following serious side effects : an allergic reaction (difficulty breathing, closing of your throat, swelling of your lips, tongue, or face, or hives). Other, less serious side effects may also occur. Continue to take Exelon and talk to your doctor if you experience drowsiness or dizziness, nausea, vomiting, or decreased appetite, diarrhea, weight loss, abdominal pain or diarrhea, headache, weakness or a feeling of general discomfort, or tremor. Exelon Precautions Tell your doctor your medical history, including: have significant nausea, vomiting, lack of appetite, or weight loss, have difficulty urinating, have heart disease such as a slow or irregular heartbeat, have a history of stomach ulcers, have seizures or a history of seizures, have a history of asthma or obstructive pulmonary disease, or need to have surgery. It Should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding. Use caution when driving, operating machinery, or performing other hazardous activities. Exelon may cause dizziness or drowsiness. If you experience dizziness or drowsiness, avoid these activities. Exelon Overdose If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include severe nausea, vomiting, watering mouth, sweating, slow heartbeat, slow breathing, prolonged or severe dizziness, fainting, blurred vision, seizures, and collapse. Exelon Missed Dose If you miss an Exelon dosage, take it as soon as you remember. If it is near the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not "double-up" the dose to catch up.
