Myambutol Uses Myambutol is an antibiotic. Mymbutol prevents growth of the tuberculous bacteria in the body. Myambutol is used to treat tuberculosis (TB). How to use Myambutol Take Myambutol exactly as directed on the package or as directed by your doctor. If you do not understand these directions, ask your pharmacist, nurse, or doctor to explain them to you. Take each dose with a full glass of water. Myambutol can be taken with or without food.
Taking Myambutol with food may decrease stomach upset.
Never take more of this medication than is prescribed for you Myambutol Side Effects This drug may cause following serious side effects: an allergic reaction (difficulty breathing; closing of the throat; swelling of the lips, tongue, or face; or hives) vision changes (e.g., blurring, red-green color blindness), numbness or tingling in your fingers, toes, hands, or feet, confusion, disorientation, or hallucinations,or fever Other, less serious side effects may be more likely to occur. Continue to take Myambutol and talk to your doctor if you experience stomach upset, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, or decreased appetite, headache, mild dizziness, worsening gout, or joint pain. Side effects other than those listed here may also occur. Talk to your doctor about any side effect that seems unusual. Myambutol Precautions Tell your doctor your medical history especially of : If you had a previous allergic reaction to Myambutol, cataracts, diabetic retinopathy, or optic neuritis; or kidney disease. Use caution when driving, operating machinery, or performing other hazardous activities. Myambutol may cause dizziness. If you experience dizziness, avoid these activities. Myambutol should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding. Myambutol Drug Interactions Do not take antacids that contain aluminum within several hours of taking a dose of Myambutol. Aluminum will decrease the amount of Myambutol that is absorbed by the body. If you need an antacid, ask your doctor or pharmacist to recommend one that is aluminum free.Talk to your doctor and pharmacist before taking any prescription or over-the-counter medicines, including vitamins, minerals, and herbal products. Myambutol Missed Dose If you miss a dose, take as soon as remembered; do not take if it is almost time for the next dose, instead, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not double the dose to catch up. Myambutol Storage Store at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (between 15 and 30 degrees C) away from moisture and sunlight. Do not store in the bathroom.
